Who I'm writing this for and why I almost didn't start

Pull up a chair,

I almost didn't write this. Not because I didn't have anything to say. I have twenty years of things to say. But because there is something quietly terrifying about deciding that your voice matters enough to show up in someone's inbox every two weeks and say — here. This is what I think. This is what I've learned. This is what I wish someone had told me.

So I want to start there. With the almost.

Because I have a feeling you know that feeling too.

Here's who I am, the real version.

My name is Kristen Brown. I am a certified life and health coach, massage therapist, cosmetologist, a spa industry leader with over 20 years of experience, and the founder of Kristen Brown Studio.

But those words: certified, leader, founder they don't tell you much about who I actually am. So let me try again.

I am someone who spent twenty years learning how to take care of everyone else. My team. My guests. My family. The people who relied on me to show up, hold it together, and make it work. And I did. I am good at that. I have always been good at that.

What I was less good at was taking care of myself in the process.

I know what it feels like to be the person everyone leans on while quietly wondering if anyone notices how tired you are. I know what it feels like to be good at your job and still feel invisible in the rooms that matter. I know what it feels like to want something different, something more, something truer and not be sure you are allowed to want it.

I also know what it feels like to get sick at the height of what felt like my best season. When I was the strongest I had ever been, the most engaged, the most alive in my work and have my body quietly start falling apart without warning. Months of tests. Months of not knowing. Eventually a Lyme disease diagnosis that sent me down a path of natural healing I never expected and that changed how I understand health, energy, and what it actually means to take care of yourself from the inside out.

And I know what it feels like to navigate grief. Real grief. The kind that rewrites the before and after of your life. The kind you don't get over, you just learn, slowly and imperfectly, to carry.

The road has not been perfect. It is still not perfect. I am still learning. I am still navigating. I am still figuring things out on the same road I am inviting you to walk with me. That is not a disclaimer it is the whole point. I am not writing to you from a place of having arrived. I am writing to you from a place of still being in it. And that is exactly why I think I can help.

I also know what it feels like to finally decide that you are allowed to want more. And to start building toward it imperfectly, honestly, one day at a time.

Here's why I built this.

I didn't start Kristen Brown Studio because everything was figured out. I started it because enough of it was. I had spent years doing the work that lights me up, developing people, building teams, designing environments where providers could actually thrive, coaching women through the hard seasons and I kept thinking: why isn't anyone talking about this honestly? Not the polished version. The real version. The version that includes the burnout and the grief and the moments you almost quit and the slow, unglamorous work of building something true.

So I decided to be the one to talk about it.

This newsletter is the first piece of that. A letter in your inbox every two weeks that tells the truth about leadership, about being a woman in it, about the career transitions and the hard seasons and the quiet work of figuring out who you actually are when you stop performing for everyone else.

No tips. No hacks. Just real talk from someone who has been in the room.

Here's who I am writing to.

I have thought about this a lot. Because I could write for everyone and if I wrote for everyone I would connect with no one.

So here is who I am writing for.

I am writing for the woman who is capable and accomplished and still somehow invisible in the rooms that matter. The woman who shows up fully for everyone else and has very little left for herself at the end of the day. The woman who knows something needs to change but isn't sure she is allowed to say it out loud yet.

I am writing for the woman who is navigating a career transition and doesn't know what comes next. The woman who is burned out in a way that sleep doesn't fix. The woman who has lost her voice somewhere along the way, in a job that doesn't value it, a relationship that doesn't make space for it, a life that has gotten very small without her noticing.

I am writing for the woman who has sat with grief and had to figure out how to keep going anyway. The woman whose body has surprised her with illness, with exhaustion, with limits she didn't expect. The woman who has had to rebuild herself more than once and is not sure she has the energy to do it again.

And I am writing for the woman who is finally, quietly, starting to think: what if I built something of my own?

If any of that sounds like you even a little, you are exactly who this is for.

Now I want to hear from you.

Here is my invitation for this first issue.

Hit reply. Tell me what brought you here. Tell me what you are navigating right now. Tell me what you wish someone would say out loud about the life you are living or the work you are doing.

I can't wait to read every message. I will respond to every message. This is not a broadcast, it is a conversation. And I cannot have a real one without knowing who is on the other end of it.

I'd love to get to know: Who are you? What are you carrying? What do you need someone to say out loud?

I'll go first every two weeks. Then I hope you'll go.

I am really glad you are here.
